Redd Volkaert is "a master of the Telecaster" en ongetwijfeld "one of the hardest working axe men on the planet". De vijftiger maakt deel uit van Heybale,The Lucky Tomblin Band (zie previous reviews) en The Twangbangers, schreef geschiedenis als lid van Merle Haggard's band the Strangers, is in ruime mate van de partij op schijfjes van ondermeer Dale Watson, Brad Paisley, the Brooklyn Cowboys, Lacy J. Dalton en Ray Price. 

Voor zijn album "Reddhead" deed de Austin legende beroep op bandmates Chris Gilson / drums, Nate Rowe / bass, Rich Harney / keyboards en Buzz Evans / steel guitar en het gezelschap trakteert ons traditiegetrouw op een coctail van country, blues, jazz en western swing, oftewel 14 tracks that smoke from start to finish !

Volkaerts guitar virtuosity straalt als vanouds op de openingstrack "Reddline Fever", Al Anderson's "Goosebumps",  "Jackhammer Rock" (written by Eddie Beethoven ?), de flat out rocker "Just Because I don't Care" en Buddy Emmons instrumental "Raisin' the Dickens". Zijn bariton voice komt het best tot zijn recht op de Texas swing tune "Is Anything Alright" ( with jazzy solo's from Rich Harney on piano), the dark, tongue - in - cheek blues "Call the Pound" , the two - stepper "I Know How I'd Feel" en de country - jerk on ""We Need to Talk"  en "I' ll Break Out Tonight" ( Buzz Evans on pedal steel).
"End of a Line" kan beschouwd worden als een schitterend eerbetoon aan Bob Wills & his Texas Playboys  de covers van klassiekers als "The Letter" (Wayne Carson Thompson - wereldhit voor the Box Tops) en "Only Daddy That'll Walk the Line" daarentegen waren niet echt nodig om de fans te overtuigen dat the redheads freewheeling guitar - play nog steeds voor muzikale vonken zorgt.
